Cosplay - Getting Started: My first costume for my 12th birthday with a cheesy Classic Moon costume I made out of felt. Then, when I was 14 my mom made me a little better quality Super Sailor Moon for Halloween. I proceeded to wear that again to GenCon 2001 when I was 16. Halloween of 2004, I made an Eternal Sailor Moon costume. It was much better than my previous two, and the first that I made all on my own. Anime Central 2005 was the first time I went to a convention with the main purpose to be in costume, and since then I have continued on to many more costumes and events.

About the Site

Originally homed at www.rosedestiny.com/sailormoon, Poisonous Tattoo was going to be a Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon fan site. After much consideration and realizing that there are still many of those out there, I changed my mind. Those site are also harder to finish due to the amount of information that needs to be filled in, and once they're done, there's not much point in updating.

As a tentative fan site, it was started in late May 2002 and was hosted from my old Revolutionary Girl Utena fan site, Rose of Destiny. It went through many layouts that claimed "content was coming soon," but I was more concentrated on running my at the time fully loaded and fairly popular Rose of Destiny, so unfortunately, Poisonous Tattoo kept getting pushed to the side. I eventually decided to make it a multimedia site with extensive galleries, music downloads, video downloads, and anything else I could get my hands on, but that never worked out due to bandwidth limitations. I finally closed www.rosedestiny.com and Poisonous Tattoo went dormant for awhile.

In July of 2004, I decided I wanted another domain. I eventually settled on www.pssailormoon.com, with the "ps" standing for "pretty soldier." Unlike all of the previous domains I've owned, I was never really attached to this one. I just wanted something Sailor Moon related, but my site was on its way to coming back! While playing with the idea of making the multimedia site again, I started to going to conventions. A few months before ACEN 2005, I finally thought of an idea for Poisonous Tattoo that would work: a collection of my cosplay. It's definitely been my most successful concept.

Finally in January 2006, I had become so detached from the domain www.pssailormoon.com that I finally went ahead and changed it to www.poisontattoo.net, which not only holds some meaning to me, but it can fit topics other than Sailor Moon easily, even if it does have Sailor Moon roots.

Now for the big question: Where does Poisonous Tattoo come from? As I said, it has its roots in Sailor Moon, specifically in the movie from the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R. When thinking up names for my web sites, I have always turned to a song from the series that I liked. In the ending sequence of the movie, there is a song titled Moon Revenge, and its been one of my favorite Sailor Moon songs since I was little. In one of the last verses, there is the line, "Climbing to the top of the whirlpool of light, crimson memories are a poisonous tattoo, a tattoo that shows the chaos of the future." I always thought that it sounded neat, so it became the title for my Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon site, and stuck with it even throughout the many changes this site has seen.

Past Layouts

Version 1.1 - V is for Victory
May 31, 2002
This layout was modeled after an old Geocitites site I had. When you hovered over the gold stars and moons, the navigation info would appear about the gold "V." The black and white arrows would scroll up or down when hovered over the appropriate one. I think this layout could have been better had I not saved the files at such a low compression.
Version 1.2 - The Many Stages of Sailor Moon
June 26, 2002
The second layout was created to open in a fixed size window. I seem to have lost the greeting page though that had the link to open the smaller box, so that explains the fixed size of the layout. I actually still kind of like this style, it was pretty clean looking and colorful without being overly dramatic.
Version 1.3 - Going Doujinshi Style
September 13, 2002
Honestly, this layout never really got much done to it. It wasn't until recently that I was able to get Sailor Moon's head to stay in the proper place. I would always end up with a gap about 50 pixels wide going right through the center of her head. I liked this random doujinshi image that I found though, and I played around with it and came up with this. Shortly after this is when I closed down Rose Destiny. I don't even remember how I planned on having the navigation work.
Version ?? Not Titled
July 17, 2004
This was the first layout on it's own domain, pssailormoon.com. I unfortunately lost the original files, so this capture is missing a lot of stuff. I never actually finished much with this one, but it looks pretty. Under Sailor Moon I had this spiffy Java navigation tree that had moons and stars that changed colors as you used the links. It's a shame it's gone. But with the lack of an official version number and title, it was fitting for the total revamp in the idea of the site.
Version 1.1 - Sinfully Beautiful
February 5, 2005
I know, I know. Technically this should be version 1.5, but with the site getting a new purpose, I just started over in the numbering. Perhaps I should have just started with 2.0, but too late now! When hovered over, the little boxes under the main image would clear and the title of the section would appear under. The small area of used space for this layout created a narrow space for my galleries, so they were just pages of 40x40 pixel thumbnails that would open into a new window.
Version 1.2 - For Love and Justice
September 1, 2005
My first version to include me! I had a poll in my Live Journal asking if I should use myself in the next layout, and it overwhelmingly won. It was an idea I was hesitant about, but everyone seemed to want it. I think I did it subtly enough where it's not the main focus, but enough where it's noticable. When hovered over, a brief description would appear over the faded picture of me in my Serenity costume as shown in this capture.
Version 1.3 - Pretty Pink
March 11, 2006
This layout was preparing for a revamp to the galleries, so it was built with unlimited space for content. It was my first in a long time to not have any fancy navigation, and it's a very clean, crisp layout. I used a few new techniques that while subtle, I think give it a little more professional look and feel. Even with being overwhelmingly pink, I think it still holds a clean and clear look.
Version 1.4 - Revolutionary Princess
July 16, 2006
This layout debuted for the 2 year anniversary of Poisonous Tattoo having it's own domain name. Sure it was the very last day that pssailormoon.com could be accessed, but it was the an anniversery for the site. This was my first layout featuring only myself and no anime or manga character. I also used very little in terms of effects for the graphics, and I think this site has a very clean feel, and it's still pink without a pink over kill.
